A Cracked or Shattered Tooth Can Often Be Replaced by a Dental Bridge

Even though your teeth are tough, there are still times when a hard blow to the face can crack or shatter a tooth. This is even more likely to happen if you play contact sports without wearing a quality mouthguard. If the damage is severe, our dentist might need to extract the tooth to prevent pain and further complications.

One of the most effective ways to restore the broken and extracted tooth is to have your dentist install a dental bridge in its place. A dental bridge in Grass Valley, California, replicates the full function and appearance of the broken tooth. It is made of one false tooth and two dental crowns, which are anchored on abutments that are formed out of the two neighboring teeth.

Your dentist will then use a drill to remove the tooth enamel from each of the teeth to form a pair of post-like abutments. This will create a small, protective sheath that houses the healthy pulp, root, and nerve of each tooth. Temporary crowns will then be secured over each abutment to protect it.

A detailed impression of your smile will then be cast. This will be sent to a dental lab to help guide the technicians as they produce your new bridge.

When your new bridge is ready, a member of our staff will call you to schedule a follow-up appointment. During this appointment, the temporary crowns will be removed and your new bridge will be cemented into place.

If you have a cracked or shattered tooth, you should call Paul L. Evans, DDS at 530.273.4442 to have it treated by our dentist as soon as possible.
