A Complete Denture Might Be Able to Replace the Function of Teeth Lost to Periodontitis

Untreated gingivitis can gradually worsen into the severe form of gum disease, which is known as periodontitis. This level of periodontal infection can gradually deplete the natural bone structure that anchors your teeth in your mouth.

This can lead to multiple cases of tooth loss, and existing teeth that feel uncomfortable and are at still at increased risk of tooth loss.

In some of these cases, Dr. Paul L. Evans and his staff specialists might recommend extracting the existing compromised teeth to start the process of fitting you for a complete denture.

After the remaining teeth have been carefully removed, an impression of the existing gum structure will be prepared. This information will be sent to a professional dental lab where your custom dentures will be created.

You might also be provided with a prescription for pain medication to help alleviate any post extraction discomfort, while your gums heal. Following the extractions, you might want to try sticking to a diet of softer foods. This can help your gums and other oral structures to adapt to the pressure of the new dentures.

If you live in the Grass Valley, California, area and you’ve lost multiple teeth to untreated gum disease, you should call 530.273.4442 to schedule a dentures consultation at Paul L. Evans, DDS’s dental office.
